Hankook Tyres' Impact

At the Motor Transport Awards in July 2018, Transaid auctioned off a ‘Sports Lover’s Package’, to which Hankook donated a VIP hospitality weekend for two at the Hankook suite at Brands Hatch for the DTM. The prize raised an impressive £5,000 and contributed to the record-breaking total of over £33,000 for the night.

In 2019, Hankook secured another prize for Transaid through their partnership with Real Madrid: two hospitality tickets to a Real Madrid game, with flights and accommodation. The prize was auctioned at this year’s Motor Transport Awards, one of the biggest evenings in Transaid’s fundraising calendar.

Hankook Employees complete Madagascar challenge in support of Transaid

Back in 2012, Hankook Tyre UK employees, Mike Olsen (Product and Pricing Analyst) and Ben Thompson (PCR Sales Manager) successfully completed the Cycle Madagascar Challenge raising £6,600 for the international development charity, Transaid. Mike and Ben returned from Madagascar after completing a gruelling cycle of almost 500km across the varied landscapes of the island which sits amongst the Indian Ocean.

The five day challenge witnessed the total 25 participants tackle an average of 90km per day through the Malagasy cities, remote villages and rainforests. Transaid has raised an impressive £105,000 so far from the 2012 Cycle Madagascar Challenge.

“The impact of poor transport on safety, healthcare and living standards can be fatal. We are therefore thankful for the impressive and energetic fundraising efforts made by companies like Hankook Tyre UK that allow us to continue our vital work.” said Gary Forster, Transaid CEO.

Transaid is an international development organisation that transforms lives through safe, available, and sustainable transport.

Transaid has been Hankook Tyre’s charity partner since 2006, working together to tackle two of the biggest transport challenges in economically developing countries – improving road safety and access to healthcare.

This kind of funding from the UK transport industry, allows Transaid to carry out work where they see the greatest need and pilot new ideas to understand their impact and appropriateness. They can then seek funding from international donors to implement those solutions at a much larger scale, leveraging the industry’s initial investment.

We are proud to continue our partnership with Transaid and to make a real difference in helping to transform lives.
